Résumé : Gil Sadis is the Co-Founder & CEO of Licensario, a cloud based solution which solve the painful billing process of other SAAS company. Licensario provides software companies the ability to test, learn and change anything that’s related to their pricing and packaging without changing a single line of code. This gives them the ability to optimize their pricing and helps them increase conversions and maximize revenues.

Pitch.

With Licensario, SaaS vendors can sell any package of their software in any pricing model without changing a single line of code. We’ve built Licensario with the understanding of how painful the billing process is and we’re here to solve this pain for good.

Genesis.

The crazy ride began from a real frustration we had. Have you ever had a software you really wanted to use for a limited time, just 1 project or just 1 presentation? After another failed attempt to purchase software that wasn’t priced at its real value, after hearing another story of someone that pirated a copy of Windows or Adobe Photoshop we knew there is a problem. Well, yes, these software companies are selling to businesses but we figured out they are missing a lot of market segments because of the way the software is priced. We actually validated this assumption with some pricing models. And yes, these are big companies that can cope with the missing segments. But what about small-medium software companies? Can they allow themselves to leave money on the table? We said to ourselves that there must be another way. And there wasn’t. So we started brainstorming and next launched Licensario because we wanted to give software users a world where the pricing of the software reflects the software, its value for the user and its usage.

Secret sauce.

Licensario is different because it handles the licensing (feature provisioning) part as well. This means that Licensario know exactly what features and resources a user may or may not use in the software. This leads to an incomparable flexibility. SaaS vendors don’t need to change the code anymore when they want to introduce a new package, test pricing models, offer new promotions or anything else they want to do with their pricing.

Rise.

The thing that works for us the best is word of mouth. We make our customers happy and it leads to many referrals. We also like to be featured in blogs like this one ;).

Team.

The company was started by Igor Shapiro, my co-founder, and me. We both worked at Conduit before that. Slowly, the company grew and now we are a team of 6 very talented people. In Licensario we believe in transparency and that everyone is equal. That’s why everyone knows everything that’s happening with the company at all times.

Market.

Licensario operates in the SaaS market and its customers are SaaS companies. The SaaS market is growing rapidly and it’s a great market to play at. Though, some VCs will still think that the SaaS market is small and you should target more markets. This is something we’ll definitely do in the future – open Licensario to more markets.

Business model & funding.

Licensario got funded by a group of angels in Israel and USA. Our business model is very simple, 1% commission of each transaction.

Fails.

Wow, it’ll take me hours to talk about the things we did wrong… You can’t succeed without making mistakes, just make sure you’re not doing the same mistake twice… If I would have to pick the biggest mistake we’ve made is that we didn’t practice lean startup to the max in the early days. We built too many things without validating them.

Tomorrow.

A $1B exit :). Now, seriously. The thing we’re going to do next is release a new version of our API. This version will be a game changer in the billing space.
